It was to be a bench mark game for the A grade after coming off to well fought wins and there was a sense of occasion given the oppositions start to the season and the clubs Ladies Day.  Uni played like they had lost their first two games with desperation and energy and we appeared to be flat footed and second to the ball.  The scoreboard at quarter time did not reflect the dominance that Uni displayed throughout the quarter however we did display patches of effort that only left us 3 goals down at the first change.

Several changes at quarter time did not holt the momentum with Uni kicking the first 4 goals of the quarter.  We were struggling to find the footy and when we did the constant pressure from Uni caused us to turn the ball over in dangerous positions.  We managed to kick two goals in a row late in the quarter and the siren could not have come quick enough.

It was a different side that took the ground in the third quarter one with spirit, energy and care.  We started to generate positive passages of play due to our ability to win and hold onto the ball.  Our ability to play on quick and our use of the footy was impressive so much so we managed to get within three goals of Uni at the last change.

We appeared we had used up our petrol tickets getting back into the game and Uni ran away with it in the last.   It was a good reality check for the playing group and coaching staff.  We must come with vigour and spirit this week.

The BOYS had a realisation of the level of footy expected to be successful in 2012.I was pleased to see a fight back after Uni had kicked the first 4 goals for the day. Our second quarter was definitely our best as we took risks and shared the footy giving our forwards opportunities to convert. The score at half time was 7.8 to 7.5 with us having the slightest edge. Andy Phillips gave us a good target. Attitude and commitment went cold during the break and Uni took control of the game in the second half, leaving us chasing guernseys and booting only 1 goal in a half of football.
Jack Ramsey is a quality player, he used the ball well and can play anywhere. Top effort Rambo. Seb Moroney is just starting to fire up for season 2012, I believe his footy will mature this year and he will step up and take on leadership roles. Pembo and Cam Garry have made their presence felt already in the first three games, I think these guys just love the team game and will be consistent players this year.
Matty Easther played his first game for the year after an ankle injury in a pre-season, I think Walshie will have his eye on Matt’s performance at training this week.
Andy Phillips was our target up forward and I backed him before the game to win 9 times out of 10 contests against his opponent. I was spot on but unfortunately we needed more positive attacks allowing him more opportunities. Well done Dogs. I look forward to his assistance with leadership with our playing group.

The C grade returned after the bye to produce a convincing win over Uni. This was a vital win having lost in round 1 and the bye in round 2 it was important for us to register a win otherwise we would be 3 games behind the league leaders SMOSH and Broadview who I think are clearly going to be the measuring sticks of Division 8 in season 2012.

For most it was their first game of the season, for some it was the first time they had put on the boots since the GF last year.

It was always going to be interesting to see how we would adapt to new structures learnt by the coach over pre-season.

We set ourselves up to apply a lot of pressure around the stoppages and it was good to see Rappa back on the bottom of packs so that he could get the  ball out to our runners. Max, Bazz and Rappa were on top early in the middle and this allowed our runners like Threddy, Latchy and co the freedom to break away and setup many forward attacks.

Great performances from Henry Riggs off half back, this kid can play footy. Lynchy bagged 8 goals 4 in his first game for 2012 and Max after his long injury lay off was excellent in the middle.

It was an all played well kind of day.

What was pleasing also is the training drills that we are practicing on the track were applied with varying degrees of success on Saturday in the game. We will continue to train hard and learn our new ball movements and structures and get as the season goes on.

In the end it was a good team win, our season is now up and running, we play Salisbury this week at the home of football; Park 9, this will be our first game on our home deck this season and we look forward to another challenge.

Goal Kickers: Nick Brooks 6, Max Burford 3, Ryan Winter 1, Adam Balnaves 1
Best Players: Brad Weidenhofer, Ryan Winter, Charlie Olsson, Max Burford, Nick Brooks, Will Thomas

With the dew still on the grass at 10 15am the D grade took on Adelaide Uni. We had plenty of the ball in the first quarter but were unable to convert on the scoreboard and ended up trailing by 2 goals at the break.

A few minor changes in positions saw us take control of the ball and the game in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. We used the short and switch kicks well to have Uni on the ropes by 3 quarter time. Weed was unpassable at centre half back and Brooksy was plucking them from everywhere and with Max Burford sneaking forward to kick a couple we out by 5 goals at the final change.

Our drive and run slowed in the last term but we had a comfortable win 4 goal victory. Need to build our fitness levels
