We were sad to learn Life Member and greatly respected member of the Reds Ron Carter passed away on Monday this week.

Ron originally came to the Club as the A Grade and Club Coach in 1973.  His coaching career at the Club was extensive; 1973 & 74 (A’s, B’s, C’s & D’s), 1975 (A’s Assistant, B’s, C’s & D’s), 1976 (A’s), 1977 (B’s & C’s), 1978-80 (B’s) and included coaching the B Grade premiership sides in 1977 & 78.

However, apart from coaching two premiership sides, he also took his sides to the Grand Final in three other seasons:
1975 – A2R, B Grade
1979 – A3R, B Grade
1980 – A3R, B Grade

Ron also was Head Trainer for the Club, a role which he retired from in 1997. All up Ron dedicated over 25 years of service to the Club.

In 1989 he was awarded Life Membership for Services to the Club.

In 1995 the Ron M Carter Award was created for the player who receives the most Best and Fairest votes across all grades. In 2014 this was won by Justin Graetz.

We would like to thank Ron’s daughter Helen Webster for sending through the following email to the Club :

I wish to advise that my father, Ron Carter, Life Member of Prince Alfred Old Collegians passed away peacefully on Monday 6th October after a short illness.

It was an honour to see on your website the mention of Dad’s name in relation to the Ron M. Carter award, coaching and training. We feel very proud of this.

It would be wonderful if any PAOC members would like to attend his funeral this Friday at 11am at Blackwell’s Funerals on Henley Beach Road. Further details will be published in Wednesdays Advertiser.
